Pilgrim Nets 22 As Women's BB Makes It Four In A Row At Hutton

Hamline's women's BB team started strong and finished strong Wednesday night against Carleton at Hutton Arena. That is usually a winning combination and so it was that the Pipers made it four wins in four tries at home this year with a solid 82-73 victory. It was their second win in a row and pushed the Pipers' record to 4-6 overall, 3-4 in the MIAC.

Steph Pilgrim led the scoring with 22 points (including five three pointers) but she had plenty of company. Kara Poirier had 18. Jordan Sammons kicked in 16 with a season high nine rebounds. Je'Naya Brown added `14 and 10 assists, the most by any HU player this season.

Hamline led all the way, jumping to an 11-3 lead in the game's first three minutes. They kept their foot on the pedal all half, leading by as many as 15 points before settling for a 34-24 edge at intermission.

The Knights made an early second half run, cutting the margin to four points at 38-34 with 15:50 left. But Sammons hit a jumper and Poirier followed with a three-pointer to quickly made it 43-34. Undaunted, Carleton closed the gap to three points on two occasions. The second time came with 11:41 left. The Pipers responded to the pressure with another 11-3 run and never looked back from there.

Hamline now looks for its road win Saturday when they travel to St. Joseph to face St. Ben's. Then, it's back to Hutton Arena for two games next week. HU will get a chance to settle an old score when Concordia is here on Jan. 11 for a 5:45 p.m. game. Bethel comes calling on Jan. 14. That game time has been switched to 1:00 p.m.
