Corinne Henning's persistence continues to be rewarded. Henning scored her first two goals of the season last weekend as Hamline's women's hockey team swept Marian, 3-2, and 1-0 in overtime at Warner Coliseum. She led her team with 13 shots on goal and was a +3 for the two games. The result of that effort produced more than two wins. It also earned her the honor of being named the MIAC's Women's Hockey Athlete Of The Week.
The St. Paul, Minn. sophomore joined the hockey team after playing last fall for the successful Piper soccer team. She quickly adjusted to her hockey legs and was in good form all weekend. On Friday night, Hamline trailed 2-0 in the third period ignited a comeback with a goal. She assisted on the winning goal later in that frame.
On Saturday, her eighth shot on goal for the game was the only one to find the back of the net. It produced the victory that gave Hamline its first women's hockey sweep in three years. Henning now leads the team with two goals and three assists. Hamline is 3-6-1 overall. Their next game is January 6 at St. Norbert's.
