Dave Wright has been hired as the interim Sports Information
Director at Hamline University. The announcement was made by HU Athletic
Director Bob Beeman. Wright’s contract is through the end of June. As is the
case with other interim appointees, he can be a candidate for the permanent
position if he chooses to do so.
Wright replaces Stephanie Harris, who resigned for family
reasons. He has been filling in for Harris since August 1 while she was on a
leave of absence. As SID, Wright is responsible for the game programs, the
upkeep of the school’s athletic website and other printed material regarding
the school’s 19 athletic teams.
Wright is a Detroit, Mich. native who has been involved with
various Twin Cities media outlets almost since the day he walked on St. Thomas’
campus as a journalism major in the fall of 1972. He was a student Sports
Information Director at the school. Later, he was the first fulltime SID at
Concordia University, guiding that school’s athletic media growth through the
move from the NAIA to their current NCAA Division II status from 1999-2002. He was
also the first employee hired by the Saint Paul Saints’ baseball team and ended
up working two different terms as their Media Information Director
His writing resume includes work for Associated Press,
United Press International, several newspapers and magazines, MinnPost.com and
a 2010 book called “162-0: Imagine A
Twins’ Perfect Season.” He has been a public address announcer for many
state high school tournaments as well a myriad of college events, including
several MIAC and national events.
