Dave Wright Named Interim Sports Information Director

Dave Wright has been hired as the interim Sports Information Director at Hamline University. The announcement was made by HU Athletic Director Bob Beeman. Wright’s contract is through the end of June. As is the case with other interim appointees, he can be a candidate for the permanent position if he chooses to do so.

Wright is a Detroit, Mich. native who has been involved with various Twin Cities media outlets almost since the day he walked on St. Thomas’ campus as a journalism major in the fall of 1972. He was a student Sports Information Director at the school. Later, he was the first fulltime SID at Concordia University, guiding that school’s athletic media growth through the move from the NAIA to their current NCAA Division II status from 1999-2002. He was also the first employee hired by the Saint Paul Saints’ baseball team and ended up working two different terms as their Media Information Director

His writing resume includes work for Associated Press, United Press International, several newspapers and magazines, MinnPost.com and a 2010 book called “162-0: Imagine A Twins’ Perfect Season.” He has been a public address announcer for many state high school tournaments as well a myriad of college events, including several MIAC and national events.
