Liz Stock, who played such a key role in helping Hamline University’s women soccer team to its best conference record ever, has been named First Team Goalkeeper on the Capital One Division III Academic All-America® squad. The Savage, Minn. native is believed to be the first Piper athlete to be named to the team, which is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA).

 She was the only member of the MIAC to be named to the 34-player, three team contingent. “I’m thrilled for Liz,” said Hamline athletic director Bob Beeman. “She has been terrific in everything she has done here. It’s very gratifying to see that hard work get rewarded.”

A Biology/Religion major, the senior has excelled on the field and in the classroom. A 4.00 student, she has been on the Dean’s List every semester she has attended Hamline. In addition, she is a former Biology Student Of The Year, has won two scholarships for academic merit and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She has been a mainstay in the Pipers’ net the past four seasons. This year, she started 14 of the 16 games she appeared in, not allowing a goal until her sixth appearance, giving up just 11 all season. She posted three shutouts and shared in three others, recording 68 saves en route to a 0.87 goals-against average. Hamline had its first winning season ever in MIAC play in women’s soccer, finishing with a 5-4-2 league mark. Their 10 overall wins tied for the most in school history as well.   

Her coach for the past four years, Ted Zingman, is very appreciative of Stock’s efforts. "I cannot overstate how important Liz has been to the growth of Hamline Women's Soccer into a MIAC contender,” he said. “In addition to her on-field accomplishments in the goal, her off-field work ethic, from her excellence in the classroom to her off-season workouts, makes her a role model for her teammates to emulate.  I am so proud of her and feel very lucky that Liz chose to help us build this soccer program four years ago."
