Women's Hockey Loses At St. Olaf

For 53 minutes Saturday night, Hamline's women team played terrific hockey and held St. Olaf at bay. But a seven-and-half-minute stretch in the second period proved costly in a 3-1 loss to the Oles Saturday night.

The night started well. Haley Johnson nailed a power play goal 11:38 into the game to give Hamline a 1-0 lead. The Pipers kept up the attack the rest of the period, outshooting the Oles, 12-6.  In the middle frame, however, the Oles bunched three goals in a span of 7:36 against goalie Nicole Jones and that was too much to overcome. In all, HU was outshot, 12-5 in the period. The third period resembled the first -- HU carried the play and held a 12-7 edge in shots but couldn't score.

Jones stopped 22 shots in all but took the loss as HU fell to 1-4-1 overall, 0-3-1 in the MIAC. The women have next week off. They return to action Dec. 2 at Bethel. They will host the Royals the next night at Warner Coliseum at 7:00 p.m.
