Women's Soccer Loses In OT At Northwestern

In a game that featured 27 total shots (21 of which were on goal), it was the last one that counted ... and hurt the Pipers' women's soccer team the most. Northwestern's Lauren Cleope scored 30 seconds into the first OT to send the Pipers to a 2-1 non-conference loss Tuesday afternoon.

 Hamline now stands 8-4-3 overall.

After a scoreless first half that saw HU carry the play with an 8-3 edge in shots, Brienne Garside (So., Broomfield, Colo.) broke through for her third of the season, an unassisted goal at 60:53. The Eagles, who are now 10-4-1, tied it up 20 minutes when Wright connected on her first of two goals on the afternoon. The second one saddled GK  Molly Jacobs (So., Portland, Ore.) with the loss in just her second start of the season. Jacobs hadn't seen a single shot in her previous action, most of which came in a win at Crown. She recorded seven saves in this game.

It was the women's fifth extra time game this year. They are 1-1-3 in OT games.

The Pipers, who are already guaranteed a winning overall season record for the first time since 2007, will take a 3-3-2 MIAC mark into their final three games of the season. They host Augsburg this Saturday at Paterson Field. Please note that Saturday's starting time has been moved to 11:00 a.m. (It has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m.) Hamline has one road game remaining, October 26 at St. Benedict. They finish the season October 29 against St. Catherine at Paterson Field. That game will be start at 1:00 p.m.
