For 80-plus minutes, it was a heavyweight fight with neither Hamline or Carleton's men's soccer team giving in much. The shots were even and there were no goals scored. Then the Knights worked their way for a pair of goals six minutes apart and that was the difference. Hamline's 2-0 loss may have been overshadowed by the fact that goalie Spencer Von Behren (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.) left the game with an injury late in the first half. Zach Nelson (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) stepped in to replace Von Behren and played well but took the loss.
Carleton, undefeated in conference play (6-0-1), was limited to just five shots on goal for the game by a tight HU defense. The Knights played good defense themselves, holding the Pipers to six total shots, three of which were on goal.
Hamline, which fell 3-9-2 overall (1-5-2 in the MIAC) takes a break from conference play to face Crown Tuesday at Paterson Field at 3:30 p.m. They are at Augsburg next Friday night.
