Co-captains lead on the course and off. On Saturday, Hamline's three co-captains did their leading on the course at the Roy Griak Invitational at the U of Minnesota Saturday morning in a big way. Senior Devin Monson (Sr., Thompson, N.D.) ran a tremendous race, beating out 330 other runners to the win Division III portion of the race. Monson ran the 8K course in a time of 25:33.9, winning by nearly 14 seconds. He also clipped nearly a minute off his time of last year, when he finished in ninth place.
The Pipers, who are ranked No. 1 in their region, improved on their sixth place standing of a year ago, coming in fourth place among the 32 teams (including four other MIAC squads) involved with a total of 138 points, trailing only three Wisconsin schools.
In addition to Monson's sterling effort, Jack Deichert finished in 21st place with a time of 24:24.2. Ellis Richardson (Sr., Shoreview, Minn.), the third co-captain, came in 29th with a 26:37 timing, nipping teammate Colin Rogers (Jr., River Falls, Wis.) by less than two seconds. Chris Reisdorfer (Jr. Adrian, Minn.) was the Pipers' fifth scorer with a 57th place finish.
