Pipers defeat Scots to win first match of season

The Hamline University women's tennis team posted a 6-3 victory as they defeated Macalester College for their first win of the season on Saturday morning.

The Pipers came out of doubles play up 2-1 as they took the wins at first and second doubles.

Kelsey Eatherton (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Carissa Wallerich (Fy., West Salem, Wis.) posted the win at first doubles, 8-3. Kristen Kiemele (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) and Nicole Krier (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) won at second doubles, 8-2.

The Pipers went on to win at first, third, fourth, and fifth singles for the match victory.

Eatherton won 6-2, 6-4 at first singles while Kiemele was pushed to a third-set super-break at third singles, 6-4, 4-6, 10-5.

Krier then won at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Wallerich took the win at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-4.

The Pipers are now 1-3, 1-2 MIAC while the Scots are 2-2, 0-2 MIAC. Hamline will next play on Friday, March 11, as they host the University of Minnesota-Morris at Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
