Pipers battle but fall to Tommies

The Pipers took a 2-1 advantage out of doubles play, as both first and second singles won. Kelly Gust (Sr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Liz Gunderson (Sr., New Prague, Minn.) teamed up at first double for the 8-5 victory. Anna Yarbrough (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kelsey Eatherton (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) took their match at second doubles in a tie-breaker, 9-8.

Hamline was one break away from sweeping the doubles, as Sara Mitambo (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Kristen Kiemele (So., Eagan, Minn.) fell, 7-9, at third doubles.

Yarbrough and Eatherton went on to sweep their matches on the day. Yarbrough won at third singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Eatherton won at fourth singles, 6-1, 4-6, 11-9.

Gust played her opponent at first singles to a second second set tie-breaker, but ultimately lost, 6-3, 7-6.

The Pipers drop to 0-3, 0-2 MIAC. They will play at St. Olaf on Saturday, February 14, at 4:00 p.m. The match will be played at Owatonna Indoor.
