Mexican Consul Alberto Fierro Garza

Alberto Fierro Garza, the current Consul of Mexico in St. Paul, will be visiting our campus to talk about Mexico’s challenges today and its relations with the US bilaterally, and as part of NAFTA. Our speaker has been a member of Mexico´s Diplomatic Corps since 1993. He served as Consul of Mexico in Orlando, Florida (2010-2013). At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he has served as Director General for Educational and Cultural Cooperation (2007-2009); Deputy Director General for North America (2001-2003), and Director of Cultural Agreements (1992-1994). He has served as Deputy Cultural Attaché at the Mexican Embassy in Washington, U.S.A. (1994-1997), and as Cultural Attaché at the Mexican Embassy in Canada (1998-2001). He was Director General for International Affairs at the National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico between 2004 and 2006. He also served as Deputy Director for Reading Promotion at said Council between 1983 and 1989. Mr. Fierro taught social sciences at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and served as Director of the Social Promotion Department at the same University. He has also taught social sciences at the UNAM-extension in Canada.
