"Writing Compelling Prose: The Importance of Cross-Genre Reading"
Join in this months' discussion on the importance of digesting a large variety of writing, and how we can utilize cross-genre techniques in our own work. Excellent fiction reads like poetry and compelling poetry has elements of fiction. Creative Non-fiction, further still, will always utilize elements of both fiction and poetry. As authors, it’s important to use the tools of all genres (CNF, Fiction, and poetry) in order to create quality prose.
We'd like participants to think of examples concerning cross-genre techniques in order to encourage fun discussion.
WHAT IS HOUSE BLEND? On the third Thursday of every month, the House Blend Salon brings together members of Hamline’s creative writing community (undergraduate, graduate, and faculty) for a lively discussion on various topics related to writing, publishing, and the writer’s life.
