Antonia Felix is the nationally bestselling author of sixteen nonfiction books including her most recent political biography, Sonia Sotomayor: The True American Dream (Berkley/Penguin 2010), which Publishers Weekly called “riveting and meticulously researched.” As the first biographer of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former New Jersey Governor Christie Todd Whitman, she has spoken and lectured frequently on women in politics, appeared on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS and several other networks, and is featured in the award-winning 2010 documentary American Faust: From Condi to Neo-Condi. Her other biographies profile NATO Commander Wesley K. Clark and musical figures Andrea Bocelli, Harry Connick, Jr., and musical savant Tony Deblois, the latter three reflecting her professional music background as a classical singer.
Her column, Green State, addressed environmental and sustainability issues for the Emporia Gazette in Emporia, Kansas, from 2009 to 2011 and received a 2011 Kansas Press Association Award of Excellence for column writing.
In 2011, her article, “Lost in Individuation: Elements of Archetypes and Individuation in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation,” was published in the International Journal of the Image. Her research on a book about contemporary Iran led to her ongoing interest in women’s rights in that country, and she has moderated a U.S. Senate briefing about foreign policy options for women’s and other human rights in Iran, and also served on a U.S. House of Representatives caucus panel on the same topic.
Felix’s public speaking appearances have included the Robert Dole Institute of Politics, Columbia-Montour Women’s Conference, Ozark and Tallgrass Creative Writing workshops and Iowa Book Festival. She is currently writing a book about dreams and the creative process based on decades of Jungian study, dream work and a workshop that she conducts at writing conferences and other venues.
A native of Minneapolis, Felix worked as a copywriter for Bantam Doubleday Dell, HarperCollins and Scholastic during her thirteen-year stint in New York City, and after forays in Texas and Kansas, she and her husband returned to her hometown in 2011.
Antonia holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction) at Wichita State University, an M.A. in English from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and B.A. in Psychology from Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
