Will my emails, calendars and contacts be migrated to the new system?
This will occur once all of the technical systems are in place and basic training has been completed. The IT department is working out the protocols and systems to see what will be possible, and putting in place the methods by which this will be achieved.
Will we have a new email domain? Can we still use @hamline.edu?
@hamline.edu will be the email domain campus-wide.
What if the Hamline University network goes down or something on Google's end goes wrong and we can't access our mail and calendar?
Hamline University is continually working to bolster its network infrastructure. Google guarantees that Google will be available at least 99.9 percent of the time. With synchronous replication, Hamline University data and activity in Gmail and Google Calendar will be simultaneously preserved in multiple secure data centers. If one data center is unable to serve your requests, the system is designed to fall back to another data center that can serve your account with no interruption in service. Network service disruptions are to be expected occasionally. These will be reported via usual Hamline University channels, while Google provides its own Status Dashboard. It is always wise to exercise caution when using applications that are dependent on the Internet. While Google automatically backs up data frequently, it is always prudent to create a local backup of truly critical files.
Can I work offline using Google?

What Web browser should I use to access these Google applications?
The last two versions of the four major Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome) are supported by Google. There are some advantages to using Google Chrome such as offline email access. Possibilities are being explored and tested, and a recommendation will be made by Information Technology.
