What is my Hamline password?
Your Hamline password used to be referred to as your "Novell" password - it is the password you use to log into your computer each day that you start it up and get access to your Windows desktop, and your "I" and "U" drives.
How is that different from my Groupwise password?
Right now, your Groupwise password is held in your Groupwise account, and it only gives you access to your Groupwise email. However, the plan is to change the systems such that Groupwise uses your Hamline password so that you use the same username and password to log in to Novell, Groupwise, and several other resources on campus.
Why would you make this change?
Probably the biggest reason to use your Hamline password for Groupwise is to eliminate the confusion as to which password is used for what. Right now there are several resources on campus that you need a username and password to access. If we are able to make those usernames and passwords all synchronized, you won't be confused as to whether it's asking for your Groupwise password, Novell password, or other. It's all the same.
How do I know what my Hamline password is?
Your Hamline password is the same password that you use to log into your Windows computer every day. If you don't have access to a Windows computer on campus, you can view instructions on how to change your Hamline password through Piperline at http://forum.hamline.edu/viewtopic.php?t=58
How do I change my Hamline password?
You should change your Hamline password through your campus Windows computer. However, if you don't have access to a Windows computer on campus, you can change your password through Piperline. More instructions on both these methods can be found at http://forum.hamline.edu/viewtopic.php?t=58
How will I know when the system has been switched?
We will be contacting you further with a schedule for the switchover. We hope to complete the switchover in January 2005, and will make contact before switching over.
What if my Groupwise password is the same as my Novell password?
You shouldn't see any change. We are basically just pointing Groupwise to use LDAP (your Hamline password) to log in. However, keep in mind that after the switchover, when you change your Hamline password, it will change it for both Novell and Groupwise.
Will this affect proxy access?
No. The password is only used when you log into your Groupwise account. This will not affect your proxy access.
What if I have an account that I just use for Groupwise?
Generic accounts that are used just for email (such as inside@gw.hamline.edu) do have a Hamline (Novell) account as well, even though it may not be used. This change will also affect generic accounts, and they will start to use the Hamline passwords for Groupwise as well. If you don't know the Hamline (Novell) password for your generic account, you can contact the helpdesk to have it changed. At this time, there isn't a Piperline interface to change passwords for "generic" accounts. You will probably want to complete this step before the switchover such that you aren't locked out of your account temporarily.
If I change my Novell password, will it change my Groupwise password?
Yes. Changing your Novell password changes your Hamline password, which will also change your groupwise password. These systems will be linked, so the change will be instantaneous (as soon as you change your Hamline password, your Groupwise password will be changed at the same time).
What if someone else uses my Novell password - can I have separate passwords for Groupwise and Novell so they can't read my mail?
No. This setup will be system-wide (except for students with Groupwise accounts), and we are unable to make exceptions. The best thing to do is call the helpdesk to request a generic account for the student to log in that is separate from your Novell account.
What if I have a Mac?
You will need to change your Hamline password through Piperline. Check out http://forum.hamline.edu/viewtopic.php?t=58 for more information on this process.
