 Sending e-mail from Blackboard

 

 

 

Users can send messages to other course participants and the instructor from within Blackboard.

NOTE: The Send E-mail function may be available to the entire class and to groups within the class (through Group Pages).

To send e-mail:

•Access the Send E-mail area by clicking on:

•the Send E-mail button on the left hand navigation panel, OR

•the Communication button on the left hand navigation panel and then by clicking on Send E-mail.

•Three options may be presented:

•All Users: Click on this option to e-mail all your classmates and the course instructor(s).

•All Instructors: Click on this option to e-mail the course instructor.

•Select Users: Click on this option to e-mail a single classmate or select classmates and/or the instructor(s) of the course.

•Type the content of the e-mail. The following table details the entry fields on the Send E-mail page:

To:

•All users

•All instructors

•Select Users: Select the users you want to send the e-mail to.

NOTE: To minimize the distraction of long lists of addresses, and to make the re-use of the address lists more difficult for potential spammers, all destination addresses are placed into the e-mail message’s Bcc: (Blind Carbon Copy) field upon receipt.

From: Your personal e-mail address (Hamline University’s alias e-mail address) will automatically be displayed in this field.

Subject: Subject of your message.

Message: The text of your message. Enter the message by either typing directly into the text field or copy and paste text from another word processing document.

Add Attachments

Add: Click on the add button to add an attachment to the message. A new window will be displayed. Click on the browse button to select your file and then click on the open button to add the file to your message, or on the cancel button to abort this process. Finally, click on the submit button to include the attachment to your e-mail message, or click on thecancel  button to abort this process.

You will repeat these actions for every attachment you would like to include.

NOTE: An attachment can be removed from the e-mail by clicking on the Remove button right next to the attachment name. 

•Click on the submit button to send the e-mail, or click on the cancel button to abort this process.

NOTE: A copy of the e-mail will be sent to you. You will receive e-mail in your Hamline e-mail account (NetMail or GroupWise). Refer to the handout “Hamline University’s Information Technology Services and Resources” for detailed information about the Hamline e-mail account.
