     Wireless Connectivity Problem Resolution Service

This summer Hamline University introduced wireless computing connectivity to all areas that directly affect students or teaching and learning.  As with any technological innovation of this magnitude, eliminating all issues associated with the project takes some time.

While the Helpdesk has determined that many problems are associated with the configuration of the local machine (e.g., personal firewalls, operating systems not patched, etc.) there are clearly times and locations when the wireless network itself is not functioning to its full potential.  This form is designed to collect information to help resolve those issues.

Before you submit information into this form regarding a problem you experienced with wireless, be sure:

  1. Your computer meets the requirements for connectivity to the Hamline Network (Click here for specifications).
  2. You have read the “How to connect:” directions available at the Helpdesk (Click here for document.)
  3. You have tried the troubleshooting tips recommended by the Helpdesk (Click here for tips).

If you have done these things but are still experiencing complications with wireless connectivity inside one of the buildings indicated on the “Wireless Internet on Campus” document, please enter the information below

Please use the Tab key to move with in the form

Additional Information

In troubleshooting technical problems of all kinds, but particularly wireless issues, there are certain elements of information that are of particular value if available.  They can be obtained by running the procedure described below.  We strongly encourage everyone having problems with wireless to run this procedure and submit the output.

Procedure for PC users:

Go to the Start button at the bottom left of your Windows screen and select “Run”.  In the window type “cmd” and click “OK”.

A new window will open up with a black background.  The last line in that window is an old fashioned “DOS” prompt or “C:\>”

At the DOS prompt, type “ipconfig/all” (without the quotes) and hit ENTER.  The output from this procedure will immediately fill the window.   In order to copy and paste this information into the window below the following technique must be used:

  • Select all of the information by clicking and dragging from the top left of the window to the bottom right.  All information should by highlighted in a rectangular box.
  • Press Ctrl-C to copy the highlighted information.
