FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Why should I consider this program for my summer?
Our goal is to expose you to several new topics and programs, give you a “heads-up” for next school year and most importantly, to give you the tool necessary so you WILL continue on your education after high school, WILL successfully succeed at a college or university of your choice, and WILL graduate from college! We try our best to make the program interesting and exciting, it’s NOT all work...we do have fun as well!
2. Where will I live during the program?
Students and staff live in the residential halls (dorms) on the campus of Hamline University.
For one week you will live in a cabin in northern Minnesota.
3. Do I get my own room in the residence hall?
All students are paired together and share a room, allowing for stronger relationships to be developed and for participants to gain a greater sense of college life.
4. I’m worried the other students will be better at math or science than I am, will I be able to keep up?
Sure! With a ration of almost 2 students to 1 staff member, we stay on top of things. This is not a remedial program but designed to encourage students and to help them discover careers in the sciences and math fields they may be curious about and show them how to get into college.
5. I’m worried I’ll be too nervous!
EVERY new student has those feelings, yet within a few days you’ll make new friends and fit in just fine!
Our advice? Apply! If you do not apply then is no way of knowing whether you will be accepted.
6. I and my parents/guardians still have MANY questions, what should I do?
Give us a call at 651-523-2421. If no one is here to take your call, please leave us your name and phone number so we can call you back. Also let us know when a good time is to call. If you wish, we’d be happy visit you for a one-on-one session to answer question and explain the program better.
7. What will we do for fun?
We go to the movies, have BBQs, swim at the local lakes and the YMCA, have a talent show at the end of the summer, go shopping now and again, go on hikes, play volleyball, or just hang out with friends at the dorms...just to name a few.
THERE IS NO COST TO THE STUDENT OR THE PARENTS TO ATTEND
ALL COSTS ARE BORNE BY THE CENTER
This summer’s program will run from June 25 through August 6, 2006.
