Advanced Leader Retreat
November 13 - 14, 2009
A Leadership Development Opportunity for Experienced Student Leaders
The Advanced Student Leader Retreat was created to further the development of established student leaders on the campus, and also provide opportunities for students to explore ways to transfer their on-campus experience outside of the Hamline University community.
The retreat is designed for 25 experienced student leaders. Activities will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 and last until the early evening. The retreat will pick back up on Saturday morning, November 14, 2009, on campus with activities that will last until the early afternoon. At the retreat participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their leadership development, identify their strengths as a leader, gain experience in facilitation and learn how to apply and market their leadership experience beyond Hamline.
Whether you intend to become more involved in activities on campus, or you simply would like to advance your leadership skills for the future, this program is an excellent “next step”. It’s a small commitment of time in which you will not only learn something about your self but also have a chance to think about your next steps with other student leaders.

What's in it for me?
Whether you intend to become more involved in activities on campus, or you simply would like to develop leadership skills for the future, this program is an excellent "first step." You'll do some cool activities, meet other students interested in leadership, and have a great time. The feedback we've gotten from students these last three years has been great. Many of those people went on to become SOS Leaders, RA's, and CA's. If you are selected, you're only committing a little more then 24 hours of your time, so what do you have to lose? Apply now!
How will participants be selected?
Since we can only take 25 people, we have a simple application process to select that group. It is limited to first-year and sophomore students. We hope that after the experience, these students will seek out various leadership opportunities across the campus in the next couple of years. The application consists of 4 questions. We would like to know why you're interested in participating and what you hope to get out of it. |
Comments from past participants
"I never got the chance to tell you that the retreat was wonderful. I learn a lot about being a leader. And I just want to thanks you all the other staff for allowing me to have this great experience." Pa Kong Lee
"The Retreat was probably the best thing to happen to me at Hamline. I was seriously considering Hamline was the wrong place for me before the retreat. Wow, look where I have gone. I got involved with student congress, the yearbook, the orientation program, residential life, student alumni board and many other things." Michael Abata
"I have to say that this was the experience that changed Hamline for me! The retreat created the connections and relationships that I have used in every area since. This experience was exactly what I needed to solidify that I belonged at Hamline." Ashley Bystrom |
