Join the Career Advisors Network (Professional Network)
Faced with numerous options and a competitive marketplace, many Hamline students are understandably unsure about career direction or effective strategies for entrance into a chosen field. For most undergraduates, one of the main obstacles standing between success and uncertainty is a lack of information. Likewise, many Hamline alumni who are thinking about a job or career change face similar road blocks due to a lack of information or contacts in their area of interest. The Career Development Center is responding to this need through updating and expanding the Career Advisors Network. The network will provide enhanced opportunities for students to talk with professionals about their careers.
How the Career Advisors Network Works
Previously, the Career Advisors Network was only available to students and alumni by coming into our office. However, in February we moved to an on-line, password protected job listing and recruiting system, which has also a networking module. Through the new system, you are able to set the number of contacts you wish to receive from students so you will not be overwhelmed with requests! You may also choose to take advantage of the free job listing service and schedule on campus recruiting sessions.
From time to time, a student or alum may contact you to arrange for a brief informational interview. Of course, all meeting arrangements are left to your discretion, but on-site interviews are strongly encouraged. Typical content includes questions about how you got started in your career, what a typical day is like in your field, necessary qualifications for entry level positions, desired academic background, and employment outlook for your industry. Please note that your role is to provide information based on your experience. You are not being asked to place students in jobs.
In addition to meeting with students or alumni individually to discuss careers, you may opt for additional opportunities:
- Speaking to groups or classeses
- Participating in the Practice Interview Program
- Developing and/or posting internship opportunities with the CDC
- Posting full or part-time jobs with the CDC.
- Job shadowing
- Facilitating/Co-facilitating workshops
- Participating in topic specific panels (Example: Employer Panel, Diversity Panel, etc.)
The Career Advisors Network can be a great resource for you too! If you're interested in expanding your professional network, learning more about what Hamline students and alums are doing in the community, or considering a career change, visit the NACElink website to explore the network for yourself!
How do I join?
It's easy! You can create an account as an employer or alum. Registering as an alum allows you to have access to job postings, CDC documents and most services available to current students, while registering as an employer allows you to post positions, request on-campus recruiting activities and review student resumes.
Please use the links below to begin. Should you have any questions along the way or encounter problems, please contact Janaya Martin.
