National Research Council Research Associateship Programs – February 1, 2010

The goal of this APS scholarship is to increase the number of under-represented minorities obtaining degrees in physics. Gates Millennium Scholarship
The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander American*, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing GMS Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science. The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence by providing thousands of outstanding students, who have significant financial need, the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Eligibility: Students are eligible to be considered for a GMS scholarship if they: are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American, are a citizen/legal permanent resident or national of the United States, have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.3 on a 4.00 scale (unweighted) at the time of nomination, will be entering a U.S. accredited college or university as full-time, degree seeking freshmen in the Fall of 2007, have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, an d meet the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. The United Methodist Scholarship Program is a church-wide educational service providing scholarships to help supplement the financial needs of today’s students. Funding for these scholarships is provided through Special Sundays Offerings, wills, annuities and other designated gifts. Students need to complete only one application each year. MET Program
The MET program is for students or dependent children of people who work in agriculture or a slaughterhouse. Students must apply and be accepted prior to the beginning of the semester. The fundamental objective of MET's migrant and seasonal farm worker program is permanent unsubsidized employment in an occupation that pays a sustainable wage and allows the individual to advance in both earnings and responsibility as the client's tenure and skill set increase. The Sallie Mae Fund sponsors several scholarship programs and supports hundreds of college scholarships. All programs are based on financial need, as The Fund seeks to bridge the dollar gap when no one else can. This is a nonprofit foundation who is motivated to impact the lives of students and encourage them to continue their educational journey.
