HAMLINE UNIVERSITY SAFETY AND SECURITY

Campus Warning - Graffiti - April 1, 2008

On March 30, 2008 at about 8:30 p.m., a group of four juvenile males (12 – 14 years old) reportedly entered the School of Law and left graffiti in the men’s bathrooms. It also appears they removed a pipe from one of the toilets.

A witness reported seeing the suspects acting suspiciously. The witness said two of the juvenile males “stood guard” outside the bathroom while two of the juvenile males were inside the bathroom. He reported the suspects were engaging in rowdy behavior, moving quickly, avoiding eye contact, and they did not appear old enough to be Hamline students. The witness went inside the bathroom, saw the graffiti and called security. Security officers chased the suspects to the area of Englewood and Hamline Avenues before losing sight of them.

The graffiti included a cartoon character that was similar to another “tagging” incident on campus.

Surveillance video shows that the suspects were two juvenile white males and two juvenile black males. One white male wore black pants and a black hooded sweat shirt. The second white male wore a multi-colored green jacket and dark pants. The first black male wore an army style green jacket and blue jeans. The second black male wore a multi-colored jacket and blue jeans.

It’s up to all of us to keep our campus crime-free. Please be sure to report any suspicious activity you observe to safety and security services, as soon as possible.
