The St. Paul Police Department has issued an advisory regarding the investigation of possible activity by known sex offender(s) in the Hamline Midway area. The police are investigating a number of suspicious incidents in which a man has been knocking on doors and making non-emergency requests of residents.
Investigators are focusing their investigation on one or more known sex offenders in the area whose previous offense history includes similiar behavior. Investigators are aware of at least three incidents in which a man, who matches the descriptiion of a known sex offender, has knocked on a door of various residences and made requests for such things as a glass of water, to use the phone or if a parent was home.
The suspect in these incidences live in the general vicinity and has been described as male, 28-36 years old, 5'9" to 6'2" and weighing 215-240 pounds.
Please take this basic steps to increase personal safey and the safety of the neighborhood:
- Keep doors locked even while home
- Attempt to identify a person at the door through a peep hole or window
- Communicate with a person at the door by speaking to them through the locked door
- Be especially mindful of answering the door to unknown people when home alone
- Instruct children on expected procedures for door answering when adults are away
