Campus Safety Alert - January 21, 2006

On Friday night, January 20th at approximately 1030 p.m. two students by the Hamline Apartments were approached by two African American males and robbed of their purses at gun point.

The two males were described as follows:

1. African American, approximately 5'5" - 5'6", average build, early to mid 20's. He was wearing a black baseball cap unknown if any logo, a black puffy hip length jacket, wearing no gloves. He was armed with a small black handgun.

2. African American, approximately 5'7"-5'8", with a bigger build than #1. Unknown age range. He also had an unknown color baseball cap and possibly wearing a green jacket.

Details of the incident:

The students were approached by suspect #1 while suspect #2 stayed by the street. Suspect #1 initially had the handgun hidden in his right sleeve as he approached the students. He asked for both their purses while pointing the gun at one of the students. After giving him their purses, both suspects fled north across Englewood towards Osborn.

St. Paul Police Department responded and is investigating this incident. If anyone has any information please contact St. Paul Police and our office at 2100.

Safety and security would like to advise the Hamline Community that if you are out in the evening hours to be aware of your surroundings and try to walk in a group. We encourage anyone to call our office for an escort on or near campus.

Please be advised to report any theft of credit cards, debit/ATM cards to your banking institution immediately. Never carry your social security card with you.
