Scott Bell![]() Alma Mater: University of Minnesota '95 E-mail: sbell01@hamline.edu Phone: 651-523-2243 Scott Bell enters his fifth season at the helm of the Hamline men's hockey program. He has led the Pipers to back-to-back MIAC tournament championship game appearances the last two seasons.In just his third season as the Pipers’ head coach, Bell took his team all the way to first, winning the MIAC regular season championship for the first time in 60 years. In 2007-08, Bell led the Pipers to a 16-7-4,11-3-2 MIAC record and clinched the championship on the last game of the season. Bell had eight players from his first season with the Pipers, 2005-06, on the 2007-08 championship team. The players on Bell’s championship team also piled up numerous individual honors last year, including two All-Americans in Dustin Fulton and Joe Long. Fulton and Long were also the MIAC Co-Players of the Year. The Pipers finished the 2008-09 season in fourth place in the MIAC standings and played their way to the tournament championship game once again. Defenseman Chris Berenguer garnered All-American honors at the conclusion of the season. In 2004-05, Bell led Team Northwest to the Upper Midwest High School Elite League championship for the first time. He was also named coach of one of the league’s all-star teams. Prior to that, Bell served as an assistant coach at the University of St. Thomas from 2003-04, where the team won the MIAC playoff championship. Bell served for two seasons (2001-03) as general manager and head coach of the Rockford Ice Hogs in the United Hockey League. At age 30, Bell was the youngest head coach in all of professional hockey. The former University of Minnesota standout was also a general manager and an assistant coach for the UHL’s New Haven Knights and Missouri River Otters. Bell’s background also includes head coaching responsibilities at the USA Select 14, 15, and 17 national festivals. Bell’s experiences as a coach includes time in the United States Hockey league as an assistant with NHL All-Star and Olympian Dave Christian and assistant at Augsburg College when the team won the MIAC championship and appeared in the NCAA Frozen Four during the 1997-98 season. As a player, Bell was a two-year captain for head coach Doug Woog at Minnesota. The Gophers won the WCHA regular season and playoff championships during Bell’s stay along with two trips to the NCAA Final Four. Bell is the only three-time winner of the “Most Determined Player” award in the school’s history. Following his playing days as a Gopher, Bell signed with the Chicago Blackhawks organization. He also played in the Boston Bruins organization and the Minnesota Moose. He later came out of retirement to win a championship with the Quad City Mallards of the UHL. A native of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Bell was a standout at Simley High School before playing for the Sioux City Musketeers in the USHL where he was a League All-Star and Rookie of the Year. After one year of playing juniors, Bell received a scholarship to play for the Gophers. Bell and his wife, Jaci, have two sons Ramsey and Gus, and a daughter, Esme’. |
