Hamline mourns passing of former basketball, baseball standout Howie Schultz
The Hamline University community is mourning the passing of Howie Schultz, a member of Hamline’s first national championship basketball team in 1942 who went on to win two NBA championships with the Minneapolis Lakers in addition to playing professional baseball. He passed away Friday morning at age 87 following a four-month battle with cancer.

Hamline mourns passing of former basketball standout Joe Hutton, Jr.
The Hamline University community is mourning the passing of Joe Hutton, Jr., a member of Hamline’s 1949 national championship basketball team and the 1952 Minneapolis Lakers world championship team. He passed away suddenly Monday night at age 81.

Former Hamline basketball coach earns ESPN honor
Don Meyer, the NCAA's all-time winningest men's basketball coach, was named the 2009 recipient of the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYS televised on ESPN on Sunday night. Meyer's first collegiate head coaching job was a three-year stint with the Pipers beginning in 1972.

Senior forward Tony Thrasher (Hustisford, Wis.) earned his first All-MIAC first team nod as center Carl Hipp (So., Little Canada, Minn.) was named to the All-Defensive team and earned honorable mention recognition.
