Sam Wiener is a great defensive player. Coaches know that night in and night out he will bring lockdown defense to the perimeter. He also an improved shooter…In 2005-06, Wiener played in 26 games, starting 22 times. Wiener was named to the MIAC All-Defensive team for the second consecutive season. He was third in the MIAC in assists with 4.12 per contest. He scored 11 points with 10 assists against St. Olaf on Jan. 2. He scored in double figures seven times on the season with 14-point games against both St. Mary’s (Jan. 11) and Concordia (Feb. 18)…In 2004-05, Wiener started all 25 games. He was named All-MIAC honorable mention and selected to the All-Defensive team. Wiener was second in the MIAC in assists, averaging 5.1 per game. Wiener scored in double figures seven times. His career-high is 17 points against St. Mary’s on Jan. 12. He posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists against Augsburg on Feb. 7 …In 2003-04, Wiener started 13 games at Southwest Minnesota State, averaging 2.0 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game…In high school, Wiener was a two-time all-conference selection in the Southwest Conference. He also was a two-time all-conference in football and baseball. He was a conference player in the year in both football and baseball his senior season and an all-state performer in baseball… Wiener is majoring in business administration. He is the son of Darrel and Karen Wiener. |
