Jim Good enters his second season at the helm of the Hamline University football program, after spending six seasons with the Texas Lutheran University (TLU) Bulldogs in Seguin, Texas. During his time at TLU, Good's offenses set several school records, and ranked high nationally in several categories. His success landed him on the American Football Monthly "2005 Hot List" as one of the nation's top 80 football coaches.
Most recently, Good was the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at TLU during the 2004-2006 seasons. From 2002-2003 he served as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator, and he was the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2001.
TLU's offense became one of the most powerful in the country under Good's watch. His players set numerous season and career school records, including passing yards, passing touchdowns and individual offense. His 2004 offense also set the school record for longest play from scrimmage - a 98-yard touchdown pass. During that year, Good's offense ranked 20th in NCAA Division III football in total offense, 21st in scoring offence and 10th in passing offense. That campaign also posted impressive marks of 37.5 points per game and 439.7 yards of total offense per game - both ranking second in the single-season record books for TLU.
His offense continued its success into the 2005 season, ranking 43rd in the nation in total offense per game, 69th in scoring offense and 15th in passing offense per game.
Prior to joining the staff at TLU, Good was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Illinois College (Jacksonville, Illinois) for two seasons (1999-2000). Good was also the head men's and women's track and field coach at Illinois College during those years. Additionally, he served as the running backs coach for five seasons in 1994-1998 at his alma mater, Linfield College (McMinnville, Oregon).
Good was also familiar with success as a student-athlete. While at Linfield College, he helped lead the Wildcats to the NAIA National Championship game in 1992. He was also a First Team All-Northwest Conference running back during his senior season. On the all-time lists at Linfield, Good ranks ninth in all-purpose yards (3,041) an second in kickoff return yards (1,215). He also left his mark on the track, where he was the conference champion during his senior year in the 400-meter dash, and was a member of the 4x100 relay team that still shares the school and conference record.
He received his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Linfield College in 1994. In 1999 he earned a master's in exercise and sport science, with an emphasis in motor learning and control, from Oregon State University (Corvallis, Oregon). Good and his wife, Robyn, live in Eagan with their two-year old daughter, Cali.

Curt Sienkiewicz – Defensive Coordinator

Curt Sienkiewicz joins the Pipers for his first season as the defensive coordinator after serving as the outside linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator for the 2007 season. Sienkiewicz brings a wealth of experience on both the high school and collegiate levels to Hamline.
Sienkiewicz began coaching with Swarthmore College (Pennsylvania) as the defensive secondary coach in 1997. After spending one season there, he moved back to his roots in the upper Midwest, taking a position as an assistant coach with the South Dakota State University (Brookings) football program, coaching the defensive tackles for one season.
Sienkiewicz coached the defensive secondary at St. Cloud State University in 2000, before moving on to the University of North Dakota (Grand Forks). He spent three seasons with the Fighting Sioux, serving as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure at UND, Sienkiewicz was part of a staff that compiled a 27-10 record, won two North Central Conference Championships, and the 2001 NCAA Division II National Championship when they defeated Grand Valley State 14 – 10.
Most recently, he has served as an assistant football coach with the Academy of Holy Angels (2005) and at Rosemount High School (2003-2005).
Sienkiewicz graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in broad field social sciences-secondary education. He later earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Dakota in 2003.
Daryl Agpalsa – Offensive Line Coach

Daryl Agpalsa enters his second season as the offensive line coach at Hamline University. A native of Waikele, Hawaii, Agpalsa brings a record of success on the national level to the Pipers.
Prior to joining the Hamline staff, Agpalsa served as an offensive line coach at Linfield College (McMinnville, Oregon) from 2003-2006. During his coaching tenure, Linfield went a combined 41-5. In both 2003 and 2005, the team finished 11-1, ending the season as Northwest Conference champions and earning a place in the national quarterfinals both season. In 2004, the Wildcats went a perfect 13-0 and won the NCAA Division III Championship.
Agpalsa's players also earned individual honors under his tutelage, with four of them being named All-Americans.
As a player, Agpalsa was a four-year letterwinner and three-time All-Conference performer on the offensive line while at Linfield. His team went 32-7 and won three Northwest Conference titles. He was a first team All-America selection by Hewlett-Packard, D3football.com, Don Hansen’s Football Gazette, and the American Football Coaches Association. Linfield set school records for rushing touchdowns and scoring during his senior season. Agpalsa was selected to play in the AFCA Aztec Bowl that same year.
Agpalsa graduated from Linfield in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Guy Ament – Defensive Line Coach

Guy Ament starts his second season as defensive line coach at Hamline University. Ament will also assist with the recruiting duties for the Pipers. He previously served as an assistant coach for Texas Lutheran University (TLU) in Seguin, Texas in 2006.
Ament played at Texas Lutheran University for four seasons (2002-05) under head coach Tom Mueller. He was part of Mueller’s first recruiting class that helped build the foundation of the program.
Ament, a native of Bunker Hill, Ill., graduated from Texas Lutheran in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He currently resides in St. Paul.
Robert Knutson '77 - Inside Linebackers Coach
Robert Knutson begins his 32nd season as an assistant coach for the Pipers. Knutson began coaching at his alma mater the fall after his graduation in 1977, and has spent his entire coaching career at Hamline, leading the Pipers' "Lead Pipe" defense to conference championships in 1984 and 1988. He has been a linebackers coach at Hamline for nearly 25 seasons, working with both inside and outside linebackers. During 24 seasons of his tenure, he served as defensive coordinator - 23 of those under Dick Tressel. His commitment to the Piper community extends to the entire campus, as he has also been an adjunct professor at Hamline for more than two decades.
Knutson has coached ten All-American players, has sent two players to the NFL and one to the CFL during his time at Hamline.
As a player, Knutson was a standout linebacker at Hamline, earning four letters as well as selected captain and All-Conference. He also was a four-year letter winner and All-Conference selection on the track and field team. Knutson became a member of the Hamline Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
Knutson also currently serves as a teacher at Champlin Park High School where he was named Minnesota Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 1997.
Knutson graduated from Hamline in 1977 with a degree in physical education and health. He earned his master's in education from Hamline in 1993. He and his wife, Deb, live in Champlin, Minnesota. They have two daughters, Kristine and Katie.
Jim Honsa '88 - Tight Ends Coach
Jim Honsa '88 begins the second season of his return to the football program at Hamline University, serving as the tight ends coach. Previously, Honsa was a volunteer assistant offensive line coach in 1988-1989.
Honsa joins the program after spending the previous twelve seasons with North (St. Paul) High School's football program. He most recently led the Polar football team as head coach from 2001-2006. During that time, Honsa was named Hamline University Alumni Coach of the Year Award in 2002 and the Varsity Gold Outstanding Performance Coach in the same year.
From 1998-2000, Honsa was the co-offensive coordinator and the offensive line coach. He was also an assistant coach from 1994-1997. Additionally, he was an assistant coach with the White Bear Lake Area High School program from 1990-1993.
As an athlete, Honsa was an offensive lineman at Hamline from 1984-87, playing on the Pipers' MIAC Championship team in 1984. He was the team's offensive lineman of the year in 1987 and an All-MIAC honorable mention selection. In 1998, he won the William Cloon Award given to the most dedicated male athlete.
Honsa's talents weren't limited to the football field. As a track athlete who threw the hammer and the 35-pound weight from 1984-1988, he was four-time All-Conference. Honsa is currently 20th on the all-time list in the hammer throw and 23rd on the all-time list for the 35-pound weight throw at Hamline. He was a three-sport athlete for two years, playing hockey in 1986 and 1987.
Honsa graduated from Hamline in 1988 with a degree in political science. He later earned his master's in education from the University of St. Thomas in 1993. He and his wife, Kay, live in Maplewood with their three daughters - Julie, Jennifer and Jolene.
Claud Allaire - Receivers Coach
Claud Allaire joins Hamline University for his second season as the receivers coach. He brings an extensive coaching knowledge and background to the Pipers.
Most recently, he served as the running backs coach and technology coordinator for Minnetonka High School since 2003. Prior to working at Minnetonka, Allaire served as the Osseo High School head football coach for seven years from 1996 to 2002. Locally, Allaire has also coached football at Normandale Community College (1994-1995), Roseville High School (1992-1993) and Minneapolis North High School (1991).
Allaire has collected two state high school championship titles - an MSHSL State Championship with Minnetonka in 2004 and the 1987 Michigan State High School Championship with Pioneer High School (Ann Arbor, Michigan). His additional honors include coaching in the 2003 Minnesota State High School All-Star Football game.
He is a "Ten Year Service Award" winner with the University of Michigan football camp (1987-1999). Currently, he serves on the Minnesota Mr. Football Committee and coordinates the Minnesota Football Coaches Association coaches clinic. He is also a Lead Teacher at Vessey Leadership Academy in West St. Paul.
Allaire received his bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Michigan in 1989, and received his master's in sport psychology from Ithaca College (New York) in 1993. He and his wife, Suzette, have been married for 17 years, and have four children - Alexandra, Samuel, Josie and George.
Terry Loos - Kickers and Punters Coach
Terry Loos joins the Hamline football coaching staff for his fourth season as a coach with members of the Pipers' special teams unit.
Loos has been an assistant, coordinator, and head coach at the high school, college, and professional levels. After assisting at Flambeau High School, Loos started the football program at Mount Senario College. He has served as the special teams coordinator at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, University of Minnesota-Duluth, and Northern Michigan University. Loos was head coach of the Professional Indoor Football League’s Tucson Mirage and the Indoor Football League’s Duluth-Superior Lumberjacks.
Loos was appointed the national director of kicking and long snapping for the Pro-Scout Combine. He is a member of Pierce Kicking Services, where he does consulting work with major universities, NFL, CFL, AFL, and NFL Europe teams.
As a player, Loos was a standout guard for the Phoenix College Bears, who won the NJCAA National Championship. He went on to play for Frank Kush at Arizona State University. He also played a stint in the NFL.
Loos and his wife Billie have been married for 40 years. They currently reside in Tony, Wisconsin. They have three sons, two grandsons and a new granddaughter.
Deron Clay - Running Backs Coach
Deron Clay is beginning his second season as the running backs coach with the Pipers. Clay comes to Hamline University after coaching at the high school level in one of the most storied football states in the country.
Clay served as the running backs coach from 2002-2005 for Rockdale High School (Texas). From 2003-2005, he also coached the defensive backs. He designed and instructed the strength and conditioning programs for his athletes at Rockdale.
He was an all-district player at Rockdale in high school. Later, he went on to compete for two semi-professional teams in the Southern California Football League - the Riverside Rams in 1990 and 1991, and the Lake Elsinore Thunder in 1992.
Wilfred Thomas – Safeties
Wilfred Thomas begins his second season as a safeties coach with the Pipers.
Thomas began his coaching career with Seminole High School (Sanford, FL), where he was the quarterbacks coach for one year following his college graduation. He then moved on to Martin L. King High School (Chicago, IL), serving as the head girl’s and boy’s indoor and outdoor track coach for two years.
His coaching career eventually took him to North Carolina, where he worked with Barber Scotia College (Concord) as a running backs coach, and then to Atlantic College (Charlotte), where he served as the special teams coordinator and quarterback coach.
Most recently, Thomas served as the athletic director for Brisbane Academy (Charlotte, NC) for the past year. He also coordinated and instructed physical education and health classes while at the school. Additionally, Thomas has spent the past four summers coaching in the Offense-Defense Football Camp in Fairfield, CT. At the camp, he works with the quarterbacks, running backs and receivers.
Thomas is into his second season as the special teams coordinator and quarterback coach for the Carolina Eagles minor league football team. In 2006, the Eagles compiled a 12-1 record and won the conference championship.
Thomas earned his bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman College (Daytona Beach, FL) in 1979, double-majoring in psychology and biology. He is working on his master’s in sports science at the United States Sports Academy.
Chris Hartman – Strength and Conditioning
Chris Hartman begins his eighth season as the strength and conditioning coach at Hamline University. Previously, Hartman served as strength and conditioning coach for the University of Minnesota football team from 1995-2001. He was an assistant at Stanford University for one season, and head strength coach for the San Diego Chargers for two seasons, prior to joining the Gophers. Hartman was named Big 10 Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 1998.
Hartman personally understands the strength and conditioning challenges that collegiate football players face. He was a three-year starter and four-year letterman for Bowling Green State University (Ohio) from 1982-1985. He compete in two bowl games, and was selected captain and All-Conference his senior year.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Bowling Green State in 1987. He earned his master’s degree in education from United States International University (San Diego, California) in 1989. Hartman and his wife, Karen, have three sons - Jared, Steven, and Kevin.
