Tyler Schultz is the heart and soul of the Hamline defense. He is a two-year captain whio provides great leadership. He is a Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Pre-Season All-America third team selection…In 2005, Schultz was named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-America third team and All-West Region. Schultz was selected ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Schultz was tied for fifth in the nation with eight interceptions. He was also sixth in the MIAC in tackles with 77, earning All-MIAC first team honors. In all 10 games, Schultz amassed 86 tackles (48 solo, 38 assists), making him the team’s leading tackler for the third straight season. He also forced two fumbles and recovered three others in the season. Schultz had a season-high 14 tackles versus St. Olaf on Oct. 22. He posted interceptions in four straight games to open the season, including two against St. John’s on Oct. 1. He also had two against Macalester on Oct. 29…In 2004, Schultz started all 10 games and was Hamline’s leading tackler with 110 (56 solo, 54 assists). He added three interceptions and four pass breakups. Schultz forced a fumble and recovered two others. He posted double digits in tackles six times on the season. He made a career-high 21 stops (11 solo, 10 assists) against St. John’s on Oct. 2 and 17 stops against Carleton on Nov. 13 …In 2003, Schultz was the Pipers’ leading tackler with 84 (41 solo, 43 assists).  Schultz was third in the MIAC with 78 tackles (38 solo, 40 assists) during conference action. He added one tackle for loss for two yards.  Schultz posted four games where he reached double digits in tackles.  He had a season-high 17 tackles with 12 solos versus St. Olaf on Oct. 18. He recovered two fumbles and forced another.  On Nov. 6 versus Augsburg, Schultz returned a fumble 66 yards for a Piper touchdown. Schultz recorded an interception in victories against Northwestern (Sept. 6) and Macalester (Oct. 11). He also broke up one pass on the season.  He was named MIAC Academic All-Conference … Schultz is a management and economics major.  He is the son of Terry and Karen Schultz.
