About the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership AcademyThis is an American Public Works Association (APWA) Public Works Institute 2007, provided by the Hamline University Graduate School of Management.

The Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program provides the practical knowledge, tools, and skills public works professionals need to manage effectively and meet the complex policy and fiscal challenges they face. The program will cover topics ranging from personnel management to technical skills to understanding financial relationships among federal, state, and local governments.  

The 2007-2008 program begins September 2007 and finishes May 2008.
 

Who is the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy for?

The Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program is targeted at current and emerging leaders in the field of public works. This program will increase your effectiveness as a public works manager and prepare you to be a leader in the industry.
 

Program at a Glance

All students in the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program must complete 90 hours of training in seven monthly sessions over an eight-month period. The program is deliberately scheduled to span two calendar years so the cost of certification can be spread over two budget cycles.

The Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program consists of twelve core module topics recommended by the American Public Works Association (APWA). Participants will advance through training with the same group of peers, commonly called a "cohort."

Students who complete the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program will receive certification from the American Public Works Association and a certificate from the Hamline University Graduate School of Management. Students may also choose to continue working towards a Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree.

Hamline University’s program is rooted in a practitioner philosophy. The faculty teaching in the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy program have years of experience working in the public sector and bring a combination of theory and experience to the classroom. Hamline University and the Minnesota Public Works Association have identified local public works experts to provide the operational sessions.
