Fahima Aziz

Professor Fahima Aziz received the Outstanding Faculty Award 2007 from the Hamline University's Alumni Association at the All-College Reunion Dinner on Saturday, October 13, 2007.
Professor Fahima Aziz presented her paper "Has Globalization Paid Off? China’s Economic Growth, Trade Gains, Poverty and Rising Income Inequality" at the 64th International Atlantic Economic Conference in Savannah, Georgia on October 9-10, 2007. The conference attendance was funded by the Bush Foundation's Grant for International Learning. Professor Aziz also was also a judge in the undergraduate paper competition at the conference. Professor Fahima Aziz has been named as an American Council on Education (ACE) fellow for the academic year 2007-2008. Professor Aziz is one of 39 chosen nationally to the ACE Fellows Program.
Professor Fahima Aziz visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Beijing, China as a Visiting Scholar of the Bush Foundation Grant on International Learning in June 2007.

Larry Bakken

Professor Larry Bakken received a study grant from the Canadian Embassy to study national and local government. The study will be done in Ottawa and Toronto in Summer 2007 in partnership with Cleveland State and Levin College of Urban Affairs.
Professor Bakken teaches in the Master in Public Administration program.

Associate Professor Jim Bonilla presented at the 57th Annual State University of New York Recreation & Outdoor Education Conference in Cortland, New York on November 1, 2007. His session addressed the changing face of outdoor education/community recreation and the need to diversify organizations to meet the future. More Information>
Associate Professor Jim Bonilla presented a session at the Minnesota State Managers Conference entitled "Walking the Walk: Creating Racially Diverse Organizations," on October 11, 2007. This year's conference theme was "The Face of Future Government: Tools for Managing Change" and was held at the Excel RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul, MN.

Louis Kaluza
Adjunct Professor Louis Kaluza and Assistant Professor Kristen Norman-Major presented the paper "Social Policy Implementation: A Case Study in Bringing Diversity to the Classroom," at the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration Conference, in Seattle, October 11-13, 2007. The course covered in their presentation was developed with the help of a Race, Gender and Beyond professional development grant. More Information>
Ken Fox
Associate Professor Ken Fox was the invited presenter at the Minnesota State Bar Association ADR section meeting on December 11, 2007. He presented on the connection between a deeper understanding of conflict theory and improving mediation practice.
Associate Professor Ken Fox was part of a Hamline contingent that met for two days in Jerusalem with Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian teachers in December 2007. The group discussed how to constructively engage students in their respective classrooms as they address the conflict in their region. This meeting is part of Hamline's ongoing Civic Education project, which involves over fifteen faculty members from across the university and includes regular meetings in the region as well as a summer institute at Hamline University.
Associate Professor Ken Fox gave the lunch-time plenary presentation on ADR in Popular Culture at the Minnesota Bar Association's 10th Annual ADR Institute.
Kristen Norman Major
Assistant Professor Kristen Norman-Major convened the panel "Incorporating Diversity, Cultural Competency and Social Equity into the Public Administration Curriculum - Lessons from the Field," at the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration Conference. The conference was held in Seattle October 11-13, 2007. Along with convening the panel, Professor Norman-Major and Adjunct Graduate School of Management Professor Lou Kaluza presented the paper "Social Policy Implementation: A Case Study in Bringing Diversity to the Classroom." Robert (Rob) Routhieaux
Associate Professor Rob Routhieaux (MAM, MANM) was awarded a grant from the Academy of Management ODC Endowment Fund to support his research project entitled "Rebuilding and Maintaining Internal Communication and Morale after Organizational Crisis."
David Schultz
Professor David Schultz was chosen for a Fulbright Senior Specialists project to teach at the American University of Armenia. As part of this project, Professor Schultz taught election law to law students in Armenia in February and March 2007. More Information>

Thomas (Tom) Walkington
Dr. Tom Walkington is Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2008 International Public Administration Conference (4rd ICPA) hosted by the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute of Public Policy, Sept 25-26, 2008. The theme of the conference is: Building Bridges to the Future: Leadership and Collaboration in Public Administration.
Dr. Tom Walkington and Timothy Houle (DPA student) attended the 2007 International Public Administration Conference (3rd ICPA) held at International Conference Hall of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu P.R. China, on October 21-22, 2007. 2007 ICPA was co-sponsored by Chinese Public Administration Society, UESTC, American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), School of Public Administration at Moscow State University and Chinese Public Administration Review (CPAR), and hosted by School of Political Science and Public Administration of UESTC. Dr. Walkington was session moderator for papers presented on Theory, Practice and Methods in Public Administration. Dr. Tom Walkington presented at the 5th International Public Administration Conference, "Public Administration in the XXI Century: Traditions and Innovations," at the School of Public Administration, Lomonov Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia, in May 31- June 2, 2007. His presentation was titled "Measuring Organizational Performance."
Dr. Professor Tom Walkington delivered the presentation titled "Public-oriented Service Delivery, Using the Balanced Scorecard to Focus on Results and the Customer to Improve Service Delivery and Outcomes for the Customer" at the 3rd Sino-American Conference on Public Administration, Renmin University, Beijing, China. June 2006.

Dr. Julian Schuster co-authored the article, titled "The Yugoslav Experience with Workers' Councils," appearing in the Labor Studies Journal (2007).
