Selection Criteria & Admission Decisions: Admission to the Hamline University Graduate School of ManagementAdmission to the Hamline University Graduate School of Management degree programs is rigorous and selective. Our goal is to attract a diverse mix of experienced working professionals who will contribute to the degree program's learning community.

When evaluating application files, the admission committee looks at a variety of criteria that demonstrate the applicant's academic and professional abilities, including:

    • transcripts from previous academic work
    • professional résumé
    • personal statement
    • writing sample
    • letters of recommendation

NOTE: Standardized admission tests, such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) are not required.

Master Degree and Dual Degree Programs in Management

Prerequisites & Selection Criteria for the Master of Business Administration (MBA)>

Candidates for admission to the Hamline University Graduate School of Management master degree and dual degree programs in public administration, management, and nonprofit management must have the following qualifications:

    • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
    • Three or more years of relevant work experience (applicants with less than the required experience may be required to complete an internship)

Advanced Study Programs in Public Administration

Candidates for admission to the Hamline University Graduate School of Management Doctorate in Public Administration (DPA) and Certificate in Advanced Public Administration (CAPA) must have the following qualifications:

    • A master degree or 36 semester credit hours of graduate-level course work from an accredited college or university (a grade point average in graduate course work of 3.5 or higher is desired)
    • Three or more years of relevant work experience, as indicated on a professional résumé
    • Evidence of completion of an undergraduate-level (or higher) statistics course.  (Students can be admitted without such a course, but must complete it by January 31 of their first year of advanced study)

Admission Decisions

Admission decisions for the master degree and dual degree programs are made by the admission committee, which is made up of degree program directors and the associate dean. The admission committee will not review an application file until all required materials have been received. Decision letters are mailed two to six weeks after an application file is complete.

Admission decisions for the Advanced Study Options in Public Administration are made by the program faculty. Admission files are reviewed after April 1 of each odd year and applicants are notified by May 1.

Once admitted, you will receive registration materials, financial policies and procedures, and instructions for accessing student information through the Hamline University secure web site (Piperline system).  You will also be invited to attend an orientation session. MORE INFO>
