Strategic Management and Planning

This course provides students a high-level overview of strategic management and planning. The course focuses on the elements of the strategic management process with an emphasis on strategy development, planning, evaluation, decision making, citizen/customer engagement and environmental scanning. The course is designed for students with management experience who are near the completion of course requirements. It presents a systemic approach to the integration of management functions into a continuous process of improvement with a focus on results and the customer, improving performance and being responsive to customer needs in a continuously changing environment. Students will work either individually or in teams to craft a strategic management framework and implementation plan for a public or non-profit organization.
