The Master in Public Administration (MPA)

It is the leadership of dedicated, educated citizens that produces effective government. The Master in Public Administration (MPA) degree is designed for working professionals interested in the dynamics of the public sector. Many of our students are already actively engaged in public service at the state and local government levels. The Master in Public Administration (MPA) program provides the knowledge and tools they need to enhance their careers, as both managers of public employees and administrators meeting the fiduciary responsibilities of expending tax dollars.

Program Options

Our two program options accommodate the schedules and career plans of working professionals.

Traditional Model

Students attend evening classes on Hamline University's St. Paul campus, take twelve 4-credit courses in 14-week terms, and complete the program within 2-4 years, depending on their pace of study.

Cohort Model

The cohort program can be completed in under two years. Students form groups that start and complete the program together. These cohorts attend classes in the Hamline University Minneapolis Center, one night per week year-round with occasional breaks between courses. They take twelve 4-credit courses, each 8-weeks in length, to finish the program in 2 years.
