Admission Requirements

A baccalaureate degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 from a regionally accredited college or university is required for admission.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit the following materials:

    1. Completed application form - Call (651) 523-2900 to request a paper application form, which requires a $30 application fee. Or, apply online and Hamline will waive the $30 fee.

    2. Written essay - (included in both the online and paper applications). The Admission Committee uses this essay to learn about your plans for the Master of Arts in Education program and your ability to think and write.
      a. Why have you decided to pursue graduate study?

      b. How will the MAEd meet your personal and/or professional goals?
      c. What outcomes do you expect as a result of the MAEd program at Hamline University?

    3. Official undergraduate degree transcript sent directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or in a sealed, signed envelope. 
      **You do not need to supply transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University.

    4. Two letters of recommendation.

New students who are fully admitted to any degree program will be charged a one-time-only $175 comprehensive program fee. This program fee is added to the first bill a student receives.

Hamline University alumni are eligible for a 10 percent reduction in tuition for degree program courses, numbered 8000-8999. Alumni should call attention to their status on the Application for Admission form, and on their registration form.

        International Students/Students with Foreign Degrees

        International students who have not completed an undergraduate degree in the United States must submit documentation regarding proficiency in English and financial support for tuition costs and personal expenses. In addition, applicants with foreign degrees must submit official or certified-true academic records, along with a credential evaluation from World Education Services, Inc. (www.wes.org) or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (www.ece.org).

        An explanation of the grading system should be submitted if it differs from the U.S. 4.0 system.

        The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English. The Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) required to obtain a visa cannot be issued until Hamline has evidence of a score of 550 or better on the TOEFL (or a 5.0 on the TWE, or a passing PPST score), valid documentation of financial support, and written acceptance of Hamline’s offer of admission. Proof of health insurance coverage or purchase of Hamline University’s health insurance is required.
