ONLINE MASTER'S DEGREE

MA in English as a Second Language 
ESL professionals who want to further their understanding of how language systems and language-culture relationships affect learning can earn the MA-ESL online. By earning the Master's in English as a Second Language, graduates will qualify for university and community college ESL positions both in the US and abroad.



ONLINE CERTIFICATES

Teachers of Adult ESL
This certificate is designed for individuals working in adult ESL educational environments (including ABE) who already have a BA or BS degree. All courses are available online and are listed below:

ESL 6631  Intro to the Adult ESL Learner: Reading & Writing Skills
ESL 6634  Intro to the Adult ESL Learner: Oral Skills 
ESL 6636  Course Design for Adult ESL

ESL 6638  Assessment of Adult ESL Learners

ESL for Mainstream Teachers
This certificate program welcomes licensed K-12 teachers who want to focus on integrating English language learners into the classroom. All courses are available online and are listed below. (Most can be applied toward licensure in ESL.):

Advanced TEFL Certificate
After completion of the initial TEFL on-campus program, students wanting to learn more about language theory and linguistics can complete an Advanced TEFL Certificate online. Required courses, listed below, are all available online:

Teachers of Adult ESL Certificate:
This is the classroom version of our online program designed for individuals working in adult ESL education who already have a BA or BS degree.

Certificate in ESL for Mainstream Teachers
Also available online, this program prepares teachers to better integrate English language learners into the classroom

ESL license:
Prepares students to fulfill ESL license requirements designated by the Minnesota Board of Teaching. Upon your successful completion of the program, Hamline will recommend you for licensure.

Master of Arts in ESL
With an MA in ESL, graduates will qualify for university and community college ESL positions both in the US and abroad.

Master of Arts in Teaching-ESL
Students earn a master's degree as they prepare for their initial teaching license in the category that incudes the designation
K-12 in English as a second language (ESL).

TEFL: Teaching English as a Foreign Language
Prepares students to teach English as a foreign language abroad. A related program, the Advanced TEFL certificate, is also available online.
