Save our Water!

Want to learn ways to save - or conserve - water? We'll show you how!
How many would be easy to do around YOUR house?

Lawn care

Don't overwater. A lawn needs just 1" of water from rain or the sprinkler.

Savings: 750-1500 gallons per month

Keep it long: mow to 3" or more.

Don't water the driveway!

Water early morning or evening - so water doesn't evaporate in the mid-day heat.

Replace leaky hoses.

Savings: up to 20 gallons per day for each leak stopped!

Catch rainwater and use it to water the garden (and wash your car).

Wash your car
on the LAWN

. . . not on the driveway.

Also, use buckets instead of letting the hose run.

Savings:150 gallons for each car washed!

This also reduces the need for watering your lawn, and keeps the soapy water from going down the storm sewer.

Water saving appliances

Water saving toilet:

Savings: 11 gallons per person per day!

Some toilets can also be adjusted so they use less water with each flush.

Special water saving showerheads also reduce water needed.

Landscaping

Try "xeriscaping":

- Plant native trees, flowers and shrubs that need less water than grass.

- Mulch plants and trees to hold in the water.

Savings: 750 to 1500 gallons each month you water the lawn!

Total water saved = 80 to 130 gallons per day!

Do you think you could save even MORE than that?
