Pamela Carter Joern: The Plain Sense of Things (collected stories), University of Nebraska Press, 2008, was a Midwestern Booksellers Association Connections Pick. Her first novel, The Floor of the Sky, University of Nebraska Press, 2006, was a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, received an Alex Award from the Young Adult Library Services Association, and won the Nebraska Book Award for Fiction. In 2009, The Floor of the Sky was selected for the One Book, One Columbus community reading program of Columbus, Nebraska. Pam won the Tamarack Award, sponsored by Minnesota Monthly Magazine, in 2008 for her short story “The Fireman,” and in 2001 for “Confessions.” Her work has appeared in the Red Rock Review, South Dakota Review, Water~Stone, Laurel Review, Feminist Studies, Minnesota Monthly and an anthology, Times of Sorrow, Times of Grace.
