Scene Shop Supervisor and Special Events Coordinator
Jean Noël Guermonprez has been the scene shop foreman in the theatre department at Hamline University since fall 1993. He was a freelance artist and visual arts teacher in Paris, France, before coming to the Twin Cities with a Fulbright grant as a visiting artist in the art department of the University of Minnesota. He came first to Hamline University to teach drawing and sculpture in the art department in fall 1990. He has a degree in sculpture (June 1971) and architecture (1979) from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
The students working in the scene shop are involved in all steps of the construction of the sets supporting our theatrical productions. They are exposed to the organization of the work in the shop and on stage as well as the responsibility for a safe environment. The skills they develop are directly transferable to the professional world.
"It is very important that the students take from this experience a sense of commonsense, honesty, respect, courtesy, responsibility and creativity."
- Jean Noël Guermonprez
