Bruce Thomas received his BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His professional work includes bronze figurative sculpture that has been sold through seven different galleries, a couple dozen portrait busts, and several commissioned life-sized bronzes for landscape and architectural settings.
Professor Thomas teaches beginning sculpture. The semester has three parts, beginning with a head study, a portrait made in clay working from a model, a study of sculpture in the western tradition of the last few hundred years as chosen by the student from the pictures found in many books kept in the studio and the third project is similar, but with more freedom of choice including the option of designing one's own sculpture. All work is done in clay and photographed when finished. The purpose of this method is to learn in specific ways how to see, understand, and make a three dimensional form.
