"Warrior Queens Among the Ancient Maya."
Now in its 29th season, the Maya Society of Minnesota sponsors an annual lecture series focusing on the ancient and modern cultures of Mexico and Central America.  Dr. Reese-Taylor will discuss examples of warrior queens among the Classic Maya and the context in which they arose.
Lecture: Kathryn Reese-Taylor, Associate Professor in the Department of Archaeology, University of Calgary, Canada, and Fellow of the Latin American Research Centre.

Nothing But Nets Malaria Workshop
This is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading kill of children in Afria.  Hosted by United Nations Foundation and Hamline University, this Malaria Workshop will engage college students in an interactive workshop to learn more about the epidemiology and prevention of malaria and develop the communications and advocacy skills to save lives in Africa.  Food and beverages will be served.  Date: Tuesday, November 13

"Renewable Energy"
Part of the Hamline Dialogue Series "Managing Our Resources: Energy, the Environment and Sustainability".  The world and all of its systems run on some sort of energy; energy moves the world.  Demand for energy is growing.  The ability to meet increasing demands while preserving the environment and managing sustainability are challenges that every system must face.  Over the course of seven Dialogues, the Graduate School of Management and the Graduate School of Education will bring together experts to address these issues and engage the audience in a dialogue sure to energize and sustain discussion.

Training Opportunitiy on GLBT Issues Offered
This introductory training session of the Safe Zone is being offered on issues related to gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender awareness and advocacy. This workshop requires 20 participants but is limited to 40 people so pre-registration is necessary.

HECUA Environmental Sustainability Information Session
Join Eleonore Wesserle, teaching assistant for HECUA's Environmental Sustainability program, for a free pizza lunch and information session to learn more about the semester-long program.  This is a semester-long program that examines social, political, and economic issues surrounding environmental change.  Students will learn how to build a more sustainable society through hands-on experience and internships, and receive college credit.
HECUA, the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs, is an organization of 17 colleges and universities dedicated to education for social justic.
