Unbought and Unbosses: Remembering Shirley Chrisholm
Before Jesse, before Al, before Barack—there was Shirley. Shirley Chisholm was the first black woman elected to the United States Congress (in 1969) and the first African American of either gender to seek a major party's presidential nomination, an effort recounted in the documentary "Unbought & Unbossed." Whether or not Shirley Chisholm met her goal of becoming "a catalyst for change," as she planned, is arguable. But that she had guts and the strength of her convictions is beyond debate. Come learn about a true trailblazer.

Drawing on the experiences and scholarship of transgender and genderqueer communities, combined with facilitated activities and small group discussion, attendees think about gender in new ways and leave with steps they can take to help make our campus and larger communities more welcoming and affirming for everyone. Educational materials will be provided, and snacks/beverages will be served.
