We review applications on a rolling basis, meaning that you can apply and start your Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate at three separate times throughout the year. We recommend applying at least six weeks before the term you want to start to ensure your spot.

Time to complete your ASD Certificate

The typical time to complete the certificate is 9-12 months depending on how many classes you take per term.

ASD Certificate courses

You’ll finish your certificate in autism spectrum disorder certificate in five courses.

Core courses:

  • SPED 7100: ASD: Introduction and Overview (2 credits)
  • SPED 7101: Proactive Behavior Management (2 credits)
  • SPED 7104: Intervention and Strategies for Students with ASD (4 credits)
  • One course from the following:
    • SPED 7102: Assessment: Identification and Planning for the Student with ASD (2 credits)
    • SPED 7103: Communication, Assessment, and Intervention for Learners with ASD (2 credits)

Elective course(S):

Choose two additional credits (1-2 credits each) from the following:

  • SPED 7105: Collaborative Transition Programming to Support Individuals with ASD Across Ages (2 credits)
  • SPED 7106: Social Cognition (2 credits) SPED 6998 - Topics (1 credit each)

How to apply to the ASD Certificate program

Applying to the ASD certificate program is simple and only required if this is the first certificate you’ve applied for at Hamline or if you are not enrolled in another Hamline School of Education degree or certificate program.

  • Online application (no fee)
  • Official transcript of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.5 from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • This should be sent directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope. Official electronic transcripts should be emailed from the institution to gradprog@hamline.edu
    • You do not have to supply transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University
