    Who may apply?

    Certificate coursework is open to licensed and non-licensed educators. You do not need to apply for most certificate programs. Exception: TEFL certificate, Advanced Pain Management certificate.

    Certificates

    Adult ESL
    Designed for individuals working in adult ESL education, this four-course series examines course design, assessment, and the development of reading, writing, and oral skills with adult English language learners. Offered online and on campus.

    Advanced Pain Management
    Pursue a post-master’s certificate in advanced pain management through Hamline University and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). Our innovative program—just over a year in length—combines the convenience of online classes with hands-on clinical work under the guidance of experienced pain practitioners.

    Advanced Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
    Students who have a TEFL certificate and wish to learn more about language theory and linguistics can pursue an advanced TEFL certificate, offered online or on-campus.

    Autism Spectrum Disorders
    Certified ASD teachers help learners with ASD become active participants in society. Offered online and on campus.

    Book Arts
    Book making is a logical extension of integrated literacy learning. Offered on campus.

    Children's Literature
    A certificate program in children’s literature that honors the power of authentic reading and high-quality literature for all students. Offered online and on campus.

    College Admission Counseling
    This online certificate program is designed to prepare any professional for counseling high school students in relation to post-secondary planning and the admission process. Offered online.

    ESL for Mainstream Teachers
    This certificate is open to licensed K-12 teachers who seek direction in making educational decisions for English language learners. Offered online and on campus.

    Environmental Education
    Design a program that meets your teaching and public education needs. Courses are offered on campus, at your site, or online and can include ecology, natural history, teaching methods, field biology, and geology.

    Gifted Education
    This certificate prepares K-12 teachers, curriculum specialists, resource teachers, and administrators to foster the growth and success of gifted learners. Offered on campus.

    Literacy for the Teaching of Reading and Writing
    Enhance your understanding of the role of literacy learning across the curriculum. Offered online and on campus.

    Other Health Disabilities
    Coursework in this certificate leads to greater understanding and collaboration between schools, the community, families, and the medical team. Offered online and on campus.

    Teaching English as a Foreign Language
    Live your dream. Teach overseas! Experience another culture while living and working overseas after earning a TEFL certificate (offered on campus) or Advanced TEFL certificate (offered online or on campus) from Hamline.

    Traumatic Brain Injury
    If you've experienced a need for specialized training in this area, Hamline's TBI certificate will provide the knowledge and expertise to best assist students with a TBI. Offered online and on campus.

    Urban Teaching
    The first of its kind in Minnesota, this program is comprised of graduate-level courses aimed at helping teachers apply successful classroom strategies for urban and urban-like learners. Offered online and on campus.
