K-12 Licenses: Art Education

The K-12 art education license is completed at the College of Saint Catherine. Students will graduate from Hamline and complete student teaching as a post-baccalaureate candidate at St. Catherine’s. Art requirements are met through Hamline University with additional required courses taken through St. Catherine's.

All teaching candidates are advised that completion of the program within a four-year time frame requires careful planning. If you seek a license to teach, please seek early advising from the School of Education to plan your program.

ART 1010 (offered through ACTC at College of St. Catherine)

Junior year portfolio review at the College of St. Catherine
ART 5950 Senior Seminar

Art electives:
One course in each of the following studio areas: painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, technology, fibers
One intermediate and one advanced level course in a major studio area (for a total of three in the chosen area)
Participation in a senior exhibition and major review

Four courses in Art History, including:
ARTH 1200 Western Traditions: Prehistory to the Middle Ages
ARTH 1210 Western Traditions: Renaissance to Contemporary
ARTH 3910 Twentieth Century Art in Europe and the United States
Two electives above 3000 Level
