Keyboarding for Computer Applications Additional License (K-8)

13 semester credits

Educational technology plays a key role in our society and schools.

For educators interested in expanding their expertise and credentials, this additional license meets requirements for recommendation to the Minnesota Board of Teaching for teaching keyboarding and/or computer applications in kindergarten through eighth grade.

  • Learn with a knowledgeable faculty that includes classroom teachers, integration specialists, computer specialists, and technology coordinators with experience in K-8 technology;
  • Examine the needs and expectations of 21st century students;
  • Understand more deeply the ever-evolving role of technology in enhancing learning and meeting the needs of diverse students;
  • Explore how emerging technologies fit into education-- today and tomorrow;
  • Apply current research and best practices to develop an integrated curriculum;
  • Utilize Understanding by Design as a curriculum development model;
  • Develop a professional network of educators committed to teaching and technology.

    The Hamline approach models quality teacher education that is constructivist in design: previous learning and experiences are the foundations for mastering new learning.

    Courses are offered on-campus, online, and in blended formats to meet your learning needs.

    Teachers interested in gaining experience with teaching and technology, but not in need of an additional license, are encouraged to explore the Teaching & Technology Certificate program.

    Up to ten credits of coursework may be applied toward the Master of Arts in Education degree. 

    To be recommended for the Keyboarding for Computer Applications K-8 License, candidates must hold an initial Minnesota teaching license and be admitted to the Additional Licensure Program.
