Curriculum & Instruction Track: Guided practice to develop materials

1) Multi-level Lesson Planning Carstens Smith, Adjunct Faculty, Hamline University
The focus is on adapting materials effectively and efficiently. We will learn to adapt materials to a wide range of reading levels, content knowledge, and learning styles.

2) Math Instruction Study Circle Andy Albee, Facilitator, Robbinsdale ABE
This is the first of three meetings to examine, discuss, and perhaps trial instructional strategies for low level and/or GED level math.

Technology Track: All sessions have guided practice time

1) Managing Incoming (Your Digital Life) DJ Dahl, Technology  Instructor, Hubbs Center
We will be addressing a variety of topics including email, websites, and collaboration tools.  Specific problems you’d like addressed?  Email them in advance to DJ (see session guide for address).

2) Overview & Exploration of MLC Online Courses for Teachers & Students
Jason Brazier, Minnesota Literacy Council
Learn about the MLC’s online courses, many of which offer CEU’s for completion, and get started on a course of your choosing!

Curriculum & Instruction Track:

3) Alphabetics: Tools, Strategies and Resources for Beginning Level ABE Students Carol Fuller, Retired Reading Instructor
Learn about assessment tools, alphabetic strategies and resources to incorporate into your teaching.  If you work with students who need phonics, phonemic awareness, sight words, fluency and basic spelling instruction, you will find this session helpful.

4) Maximizing Volunteers for Beginner and Advanced Classes representatives from the Minnesota Literacy Council and Literacy Minnesota’s Volunteer Issues Committee  
Learn how to maximize volunteers, and participate in discussions on volunteers in your program.

Technology Track: With guided practice time

3) Wikis and Blogs Jason Brazier, Minnesota Literacy Council
Learn to create collaborative websites and journaling websites for your class or program.

4) Baby Step Tech Paul Dunkirk, Instructor, Adult Options in Education
Bring your own laptop, or use one of ours.  Get your tech questions answered and problems solved – guided help and practice to help you become more confident with tech applications.
