The West Metro ABE Professional Development region, along with ATLAS and the Minnesota Department of Education, is offering this online professional development activity.  PLEASE NOTE: This activity is open only to West Metro ABE consortium members.  (Click here for a list of programs included.)


ProLiteracy USA has several online professional development courses available.  As a regional professional development activity we are offering to reimburse most of the tuition fee for a group of 10 teachers in the West Metro.

 

Here’s how it will work:

1. Register with ATLAS to participate in this special West Metro professional development opportunity and qualify for the partial tuition reimbursement.
2. Register for the online course through ProLiteracy.
3. Pay the $179 tuition fee.
4. Complete the online course working from your own computer.
5. Attend a review meeting (including lunch) at the same time as the course’s final webinar (online discussion) on April 24 at the Adult Education Center in Brooklyn Center.  At this meeting you will:
        • Participate in the webinar.
        • Discuss ideas for how you will share what you learned in the course with              your program and/or the region.
6. Complete ATLAS reimbursement forms (to be provided at the April 24 meeting) for $150.  Your final cost for the class will be just $29.


Course Description: Creating Engaging ESOL Activities Using Computers II
(Course Facilitator: Diana Satin)

This course gives you the chance to experiment with other adult education and literacy practitioners to develop, test, evaluate, and revise instructional activities using technology in the ESOL classroom. You'll explore research on ARCS, adult multiple intelligences, and best practices for integrating computers into your instruction. You will:

•  Learn how to successfully incorporate word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software into your classroom activities.
•  Use at least one aspect of research on ARCS, adult multiple intelligences, and best practices in developing an activity or project plan.
•  Test, evaluate, and refine your activity or project plan based on student, participant, and instructor feedback.

During this five-week course you will engage in self-paced activities and readings, as well as asynchronous discussions with the facilitators and course participants.  The course will close with a live Webinar.  A Certificate of Completion will document 12 hours as completion time.
