Agenda

8:00-8:30        Registration & Coffee

8:30-11:45      Using the MBTI in Building Curriculum - Jane Kise

Your goal as a teacher is to build your curriculum so that students at all levels will succeed.  However, there are so many levels and learning styles that you may not know where to start.  Students' learning styles are as unique as their personalities.  As a result, the most successful teachers are often those who understand how to adjust their educational techniques to honor students of all intelligences and backgrounds.

Participants will learn to use personality type (as defined in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, or MBTI)--an understandable framework that explains normal differences in how people take in information and make decisions, two key processes in education--to achieve success in today’s differentiated classroom.  Learn some new ideas on how to build your curriculum for all of your students, not just the ones who think like you.

>> Recommended: Take the MBTI for free--and get immediate results--before you attend the workshop!  (Note: This is not an official MBTI but rather an adaptation of the original work done by Myers Briggs.)

11:45-12:30    Lunch

12:30-3:30      Breakout Sessions (specific schedule forthcoming)

An educational technology strand - Susan Wetenkamp-Brandt, MLC

a) Online Courses at the MLC - The Minnesota Literacy Council's online courses are a rich resource for ABE practitioners.  Courses are interactive, self-paced and free of charge!  Many offer CEU's for completion.  Not only do they offer a variety of topics, but it’s a great opportunity for practitioners to test out this     educational technology for themselves.

b) Teaching with Wikis - Have you ever wanted to create your own website for your class or program?  With a wiki, it's as easy as using a word processor.   Wikis are collaborative online publishing spaces (free or low-cost for educators) that teachers and students can use to write, share resources, and work together on group projects.  Come to this workshop to see examples of student and teacher wikis, create your own wiki, and begin adding content and collaborators to your wiki.

Get Your Game On!  Hands-on Activities and Simple Games to Use in the ESL or Basic Education Classroom - Jennifer Boe

This workshop will inlcude numerous activities and games that you can do with your students to add some excitement to your classroom.  The games and activities are focused on practicing sight words, writing, basic math and life skills.  You will learn ways to easily modify or make games and activities.  Your students will enjoy using the resources and may even be motivated to use them with their children.
