    Awards & Honors

    Urban studies faculty members have received recognition for teaching and scholarship.

    Martin Markowitz received the Burton and Ruth Grimes Outstanding Teacher Award in 2007.

    Alina Oxendine is co-author of several articles dealing with information technology and community life, which have been featured in Political Behavior, Journal of Social Issues and American Behavioral Scientist. Dr. Oxendine received the International Society of Political Psychology’s Best Dissertation Award in 2007 for her research on economic inequality and civic engagement. Professor Oxendine’s paper “City Seclusion and Social Exclusion” was selected as lead essay for an edited volume Urban Social Capital: Civil Society and City Life, which is currently under contract with Ashgate Publishing (United Kingdom).
